Fire Station to Move to Former Tustin Base

A contractor has been chosen to build a new fire station on the former Tustin Marine base, now known as Tustin Legacy.

Once the building is complete, the staff of Station 37 will move from 14901 Red Hill Ave. to the new space at 15011 Kensington Park Drive.

Erickson-Hall Construction Company was approved unanimously by the council; Griffin Structures will provide construction management and administration, according to city documents.

The project at Edinger Avenue and Kensington Park Drive is estimated to cost $4.19 million and won’t be completed until after Tustin Ranch Road is finished in the fall.

Bids came in higher than the city engineer’s estimate of $3.9 million. Public Works Director Doug Stack told the council that the difference was caused by market conditions increasing costs, and a stringent process the city used to find quality contractors.

Mayor Al Murray, who serves on the Orange County Fire Authority board of directors, said that the Erickson-Hall Construction Company has a good record and came in under bid and ahead of schedule on the recent construction of a fire station.
