ABC San Diego Honors Local Construction Industry

Construction projects by merit-shop contractors were recognized Thursday at the Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence in Construction Awards celebration at On Broadway.

Of the 23 projects awarded, none had any lost-time accidents reported. Several were praised for being completed ahead of schedule, or on time despite unexpected delays that occurred throughout the project.

The construction projects varied from commercial, industrial, institutional, health care, pre-engineered military facilities to specialty construction.

The Children’s Museum, DiamondView Tower, Smart Corner, and Poway High School Modernization were just a few of the projects judged “best” in the annual competition.

General contractors and specialty contractors submitted project entries for review. They were then judged by Ron Smith, owner of Interpipe Contracting; David Allsbrook, vice-president of contracting and public works, Centre City Development Corp.; Robert Mhyre, vice-president of Straub Construction and Joe Guerin, Editor, The Daily Transcript.

Projects receiving Excellence and Merit award recognition are eligible to enter the National ABC Excellence in Construction Awards, a competition that judges outstanding construction work in a wide variety of categories, from all over the United States.
